Let me try to recap this as best I can...
FRIDAY, FEB 11
Drove up.
Auditioned for Birmingham.
Went out to dinner on Pier 39.
SATURDAY, FEB12
Had U/RTA orientation at 830 am. After that I had a few hours before my audition. I went back up to the room and did a vocal and physical warm up and ran through all my pieces. About 45 minutes before my audition I went down to the conference rooms where the auditions were being held and hung out with some of my fellow BFAers. I felt really good about my U/RTA audition. I had 3 minutes to do 2 contrasting monologues. I found some interesting beats in my second monologue that I hadn't discovered before, which was awesome!!
I then hopped on the MUNI to get to ACT, where the bulk of the auditions were. I met up with more BFAers, walked around and got a feel for the building and check out what schools were doing walk ins. Kelsey and I decided to do a free walk in for The New School (where they film Inside the Actors Studio) and did a scene from She Stoops! It was great! The two auditioners reminded all of us of Irwin (our acting prof) and Anton Ego (yes, the food critic from Ratatouille!!) Then I had my USD audition which I felt great about!
Kelsey and I then hopped on a bus heading back to the hotel for U/RTA callbacks. I only got called back to one school: Arizona State. In my interview I learned that the head of their program was the movement teacher at UCSB before James Donlon! That was fun. Then he said that they do no classical works and LOVE Laurie Anderson.... My face pretty much dropped when he said those two things. Here is why: 1) My dream job is to work for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and do a lot of classical theater and 2) I am not Laurie Anderson's biggest fan, I almost fell asleep in the show she did at Campbell.... So needless to say I do not want to go there!
After callbacks, and a much needed nap, we all went searching for some grub. We ended up eating at this little burrito place that had awesome food. While we were walking back Kelsey and I got a hankering for bin candy, so we went on an epic adventure to find some. Our adventure took us to Ghiradelli Square and then all the way to Pier 39. By the time we go to the only store that sells bin candy it was closed :( but we got Trish's yummy little donuts so it was glorious anyway!
SUNDAY, FEB 13
Sunday was the BIG day! Kelsey and I got to ACT around 9 am. I had decided to change up my monologues after day one and was going to run them until my first audition, which was scheduled for 11:20. On a whim, and after hearing about their program, I decided to do a walk in for USC. It was a fun audition and I am glad I used my second package of pieces. They showcased me way better. I found out this morning that I did not get a callback for their program, but I am happy I auditioned anyway.
After that Dom and I went up to the roof and she helped me tweak the new pieces. She was amazingly helpful and I love her forever for helping me with everything :)
My ART/Harvard audition was next. I felt really great about my pieces and they chatted with me a bit after I presented them. They then had me list all the other pieces in my repertoire and picked a 3rd monologue for me to do. I thought that was cool. Still waiting to hear from them.
After that I had a long break, so I walked to Subway and Starbucks to get some food and free hot water.
UCSD was at 2:14 and boy were they cold! I walked in, slated, presented, said thank you to which they said thank you and I walked out. Very odd, seeing as every other school (even Yale) asked me a few questions before or after I presented.... whatever.
Then I had another 2 hour break before Yale. This ended up being a 3 hour break, and by the time it was my turn I was so ready to be done that I just had fun with the monologues. Compared to everyone else I was auditioning with I looked super young, so I really wasn't expecting much. Yale, I will come for you in a few years and blow your socks off!!
After I got done, Kelsey and I hit up a bar for some much needed wine and went adventuring for some food! We ended up in Little Italy at Tony's and MAN was it delicious. I had mussels in a white wine sauce that were to die for! After our yummy pizza we walked across the street to get some gelato. It was delish!!
Then instead of taking the bus back we walked since we realized how close we were.
MONDAY, FEB 14
Today I had my last audition, and the one I was looking forward to the most: Brown. We got there an hour early and ended up meeting the head of the program (awesome!) I got a great warm up in and felt great about my monologues!! Definitely the best I did them all weekend. I chatted with them for a bit after my audition and left them smiling. After Kelsey finished with her audition we hit up Starbs for some coffee and hit the road.
Now I'm off to rehearsal! What a weekend!!
Love,
Jen
